Semester Reflection

Throughout Fall of 2011, SC-932 has overcome many obstacles, achieved many goals, and continued to produce citizens of good character. Over the course of one semester, students have had the opportunity to plan ceremonies, participate in Drill Meets, hold community service efforts, and even take a trip to Dayton, Ohio. As 2011 becomes a memory, and we welcome 2012 with open arms, it is important to remember and celebrate the many accomplishments of our cadet corps.

From the beginning of summer, cadets were exceedingly eager to volunteer with the corps, participating in efforts ranging from moving thousands textbooks at the BHS Campus to volunteering with a local assisted living facility. After the school year began, our cadets welcomed a new instructor, Lt Col John Arias, and started the semester with several projects already in the midst. The cadets held an exceptional September 11th ceremony, a successful Veteran's day ceremony, and executed a well-though out plan to increase cadet retention.

Beginning with the corps' annual September 11th Ceremony, cadets planned three community-wide ceremonies that took the meaning 'cadet run' to an entirely new level. Cadets learned the importance of timeliness, organization and most importantly, communication. These ceremonies were a gleaming success, and an exceptional opportunity for the cadets to seize, with regards to the skills that could be reinforced through hands-on learning. Overall, the population of cadets had the opportunity to participate in countless community service projects, and even more school-wide endeavors.

In the eyes of SC-932, the fall semester has been a gleaming success, and has been a positive learning experience for both instructors and students.

2011 Golden Corral Veteran's Night

On Monday November 14, more than 30 SC-932 cadets had the unique privilege to meet and assist hundreds of veterans and their family members at the Golden Corral in uptown Spartanburg. Between 5pm and 9pm, veterans and their guests were allowed to enter for a complementary meal, as a means of thanking them for their countless acts of selfless service. Cadet duties ranged from escorting veterans into the building, to meeting disabled veterans and listening to their accounts of their own servitude. SC-932 cadets began eager to help the veterans and assist them throughout the night, and ended the night enriched by the words and actions of those who served their country. It is needless to say, that this event was an exceptional opportunity for those JROTC cadets who volunteered their time Monday evening.

WPAFB CIA Trip 2011

On October 27th, 30 cadets with 5 chaperons had the privilege of traveling to Dayton, Ohio for this semester's CIA Field Trip. Highlights of the trip included tours of the National Museum of the Air Force, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, a dinnder cruies, and of course a trip King's Island Amusement Park for some thrilling entertainment.

At the Air Force Museum, cadets were able to tour many retired presidential aircraft. SMSgt Sparkman had the joy of showing cadets the Air Force One plane.

While visiting Wright-Patterson, cadets had the unique opportunity to watch and learn how military training dogs are used in the Air Force. This was followed by an exciting demonstraton by the handlers and their dogs. Also, cadets were able to tour a C-17, and watched the demonstration of a practice military funeral by the WP AFB bas honor guard. Many of the men and women who worked on base spoke with cadets about their jobs and programs.

The experiences from this trip were unique and will be remembered by all cadets.

2011 Tiger Drill Meet Success

What a great day at the Clemson Tiger Drill Meet. Our team of 16 practiced hard and had a great attitude throughout the entire process. C/Major Wrennall did a fantastic job getting the team ready. Five events entered and two trophies--this was just part of the story as our unarmed element was excellent and with a little more practice--we'll get it next time. Our color guard was exceptional with a minor error which cost us--competition was intense. Congratulations to Cadet Olivia Williamson and Cadet Jesse Michael for their unbelievable IDR Armed competition 3rd Place finish. Also Cadet Williamson's Individual Armed Exhibition routine as she took 2nd place honors.
